Two medical students from Indonesia who were recipients of the ISTIH scholarship have returned home after their placement at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital impressed by the multi disciplinary approach to patient care.
Raymond Surya and Meutia Ayuputeri ,who are in their fifth year of study at the Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta undertook a four week placement in respiratory medicine. Surya soon realised that doctors here do not regard themselves as ‘God’ while Ayuputeri was taken up by the systems and procedures in place including the daily hospital rounds.
The ISTIH scholarship is offered to two students either from Indonesia for a placement in Perth or for an attachment to a hospital in Indonesia by local medical students. Each scholarship is worth $2,000.
