The postgraduate diploma programme in Emergency Medicine  in Myanmar undertaken in collaboration  with international partners could serve as a template for building the capacity of countries with limited resources to deliver emergency care training and development.

Eighteen junior specialists from across medical disciplines in Myanmar graduated earlier this year with the Diploma in Emergency Medicine. A review established that the programme played a critical role in changing attitudes and enhancing the provision of emergency care with the graduates taking a leading role.

The impetus for training came when Myanmar was preparing to host the South East Asian Games in December 2013 and the meeting in 2014 of the Association of South East Nations As stated in the report the challenge now is to ensure the continuation of training in Myanmar  in the absence of international events.
