ISTIH is looking forward to participating in the In the Zone conference for 2012, to be held on the 26 and 27 November at the University of Western Australia.

The In the Zone conference series commenced in 2009, with the aim to provide participants with a contemporary perspective on the growth prospects of the Asia-Pacific region from Australian and Western Australian points of view. In the Zone sessions focus on the opportunities created within the GMT +8 time zone (which includes Western Australia) by the changing world order and Indo-Pacific focus of the ‘Asian Century’, including discussion of the policy settings and infrastructure necessary to stimulate sustainable growth and development and active dialogue between nations ‘in the zone’. The conference positions Perth, and Western Australia, as Australia’s gateway to the nations to our north and the opportunities they present.

Key members of the Institute, including Chairman Adjunct Professor Michael Henderson, are expected to speak and will discuss ISTIH’s work in providing disaster relief and skills training for sustainable healthcare programmes in the Asia Pacific and Indian Ocean ‘zone’, and discuss prospects for expanding Western Australian-based aid initiatives within the near future. ISTIH believes that due to its pivotal position within this zone, Western Australia is uniquely placed to co-ordinate allied healthcare and development efforts to the wider region, and will highlight this potential at In the Zone.
